It's surprisingly simple to burn your fingers on eBay and destroy your business.
Starting over can cost nothing, but it is not easy rebuilding a reputation that has been burned and damaged. If you want to do bad business on eBay and burn your reputation, here are some simple ways start the fire:
Lie about a product: You claim the item is in perfect working condition when it sometimes doesn't work. You advertise the item in mint condition when it has a scratch. Obviously the customers will hate you when they see the false advertising and receive damaged goods.
Post and ship whenever you feel like it: Take your time to package and post the item and leave your customers wondering when their item will arrive. This delay will ensure that they buy from another seller next time.
Let auctions close any old time: Few people will watch your auction if it finishes in the middle of the night. Do your calculations before hand to determine whether auctions will close at a resonable hour.
Ignore email communication: Customers can wait to have online questions answered. Never give informed responses to questions about your item or check your email often and you will get uninterested customers.
Sell junk and trash items: It's only just eBay anyway. You can sell any piece of crap or poor quality goods for a 100% profit. Let good quality be someone else's responsibility - See who will be foolish enough to buy from you off eBay.
Never negotiate discounts: You know the price is set and have calculated the slim profit margin and will never negotiate with a buyer. Giving customers special deals or bulk discounts might make them use your services again if you make them feel extra special.
Create ugly listings: Just try to draw attention with lots of CAPITALS, bright colors, and as many flashing animations as possible and really give those customers a headache. Write as much in CAPITALS!!!! as you can. Preferably big, red capitals. Be sure to use the fonts Impact and Comic Sans, and lots of Wordart too. And for that extra special touch to piss off your visitors, add some music! - that always works.
Don't add auction photos: If the buyer wants to see photos, they can get stuffed. You don't have enough time and are too lazy go that extra mile and include nice clear photos, because it's just too much hard work get the camera out and point it at the item.
Write breif and vague descriptions: In the short description title field, use many abbreviations that will be hard to understand, but never mind, it will make you look so cool. And just for good measure, why not repeat the title again in the description box if it fits. Yay!
Set reserves on your auctions: Want to make your customers run like hell? When they see the "reserve not yet met", your visitors will be clicking on their back button. Lucky for them they can try a normal auction and another seller's item.
